My name is Marcel Schot . I am the junior of a family with two older-brothers and three sisters. I started my musical career on the euphonium at the age of 14 and started playing at the local wind band. After two years I switched to the trombone.
In 1989 after getting my degree as an electronic engineer, I went to the Rotterdam conservatory to study the trombone. For two years I studied with Jilt Jansma and George Wiegel ( former solo-trombone Rotterdam Philharmonic). During that time I played with the National Youth Wind Orchestra conducted by Jan Cober, and started working as a partime brass instrument repairer. In 1991 I left the Conservatory to work full time as a brass repairer. At this moment I work in one of the oldest(since 1928) and finest shops in Holland - Atelier Pfeiffer.
I have been appointed bass trombone of the Holland Big band and Amsterdam Brass and I subed for bass trombone/tuba in the dutch Lion King production.
I do a lot of doubling and I feel comfort with many styles of music, except I can not improvise !! In my rare spare time I play in all kinds of different ensembles; Big band, Symphony orchestra's, brass bands, and I have tought brassplaying, learning young people to play their first brassy notes.
Next to my playing and working in a Brass shop, I set-up a website about Brass players in Filmmusic which combines mine passion for Brass and filmmusic. True my work I also organize the Trumpetparty and the Dutch Bass Trombone Open. (more info you can find on my link page)
